Even if you lived under a rock in the middle of nowhere, you would still probably get SMS and It's one of the powerful patterns in existence for digital communication. So, Let's ease the load off our users to catch up with their important SMS.
Here in Truecaller, we are making end-user life easier by showing messages that are important to them, make actions and information easily accessible in their cluttered SMS Inbox and inform users only when it necessary.
Last year I joined truecaller tasked with taking what we learned from Mho and for exploring what Truecaller might look like with a more informative tab called "Important" along with other contacts, others, and spam tabs. I was the sole designer for an end to end interaction, controls, and visual design for the Important tab and other product development like Info card and smart notifications.
One of those most laborious tasks of this process was creating a room for all the supported SMS patterns, Sender based verification, and Content-based categorizer.
We know users want help...
Everything important from SMS is in one place, a user no longer has to scroll through conversations for digging their important information.
Our user promises from important tab are...
1. Upcoming
All upcoming reminders from Bills, Travel, Online shopping, Movies, etc sorted based on priority.
2. Finance
Most recent bank & wallet transactions in-chronological order across different accounts.
3. Mark important messages
Mark important messages and SMS from personal and others tab conversations.
4. Past reminders
User's past reminders grouped by category from their SMS inbox
We did a better conversation nudging with powerful inline information cards on SMS bubbles with actions that are related to the SMS.
Think about how many notifications you receive these days on your phone. There is a decent chance to be a lot. Now, just think about how many of them are really important to you?
Here, We ensure that your important updated from SMS aren't missed by showing contextual reminders where the most relevant details and actions are easily accessible and it's taking you to the detailed version of the same SMS on the important tab.
This was truly a team effort and took one year to start shipping. As the initial part of this project shipped now, we are eager to know how will users deal with it, and learning from our users will provide a clear vision to take a smart decisions which will lead us to big success.
And I'm very excited to share more when I can...
